How Much Are Pomsky Puppies?

Pomskies come in a variety of prices and options.  At this time most of the breeders available are selling their individual pups for as low as $1,500 to as high as $5,000.  As their popularity increases, they may end up costing even more in the future.  The only way to stabilize the price for the future is to get more breeders in the market.  But in order for that to happen, the Pomsky must become an official breed (see how the pomsky will become an official breed).

What Will it Cost to Take Care of My Pomsky?

Taking care of a dog is a lot of work, not to mention how much it costs to take care of it throughout its lifetime.  So many people are wondering how much do pomsky puppies cost in general.

Since most Pomskies are small to medium sized dogs, they will cost anywhere from $400 to $600 a year depending on the products and services you buy.

how much are pomsky puppies and yearly costs

Some of these costs include:

Food – Dog food can either be really cheap or really expensive.  Research and find the right dog food for your dog.  Dog food will cost you anywhere from $150 to $300 a year. Food prices depend mostly on the brand, if it is organic and other factors.

Toys – Dogs love toys, however toys don’t necessarily have to be that expensive.  For example you can use old socks and your Pomsky will have hours of fun.  You can also go to the pet store and buy some cute toys that will cost you around $50 to $100 a year.

Treats – Dogs also love treats and your Pomsky is no different.  Make room for around $25 to $50 a year for treats.

Licensing – A license for any dog will cost about $15 a year.

Medical Expenses – You will need to take your pet to the vet at least once a year to get shots and yearly checkups.  This will cost anywhere from $150 to $300 a year.

Miscellaneous – There may be lots of miscellaneous expenses also, especially in the first year of owning your puppy.  You may need to pay for grooming, a crate, and other important things that all dog owners will need.

Before buying a Pomsky you may want to make sure you can afford owning a dog.  With proper care and maintenance your dog can live happy and healthy life!  Make sure you do your research and look into different breeders to see how much they are selling Pomskies.

How the Pomsky Will Become an Official Breed

The American Kennel Club

In the United States, how a dog becomes an official breed is often a tedious and lengthy process. Breed recognition is given by the American Kennel Club, or AKC. There are several steps to take in order to obtain breed recognition. The American Kennel Club also determines the standards for how a dog becomes an official breed. AKC is dedicated to preserving the characteristics of purebred dogs.

In order for a breed to gain official recognition, The American Kennel Club will determine if that breed is breeding true. In other words, the breed is generating many of the same characteristics consistently. Thorough documentation is required to show this requirement. In addition to these requirements, there must be a fair amount of interest in the particular breed.

American Kennel Club

Foundation Stock Service®

Many rare breeds are also placed on the FSS list, or the Foundation Stock Service®list by request only. There are multiple prerequisites that precede, the placing of a dog on the FSS list. Firstly, an owner must complete a questionnaire about rare breeds. Secondly, it is imperative to deliver an official breed history. Breed history will show documentation of the breed for decades. Thirdly, an official breed standard is required. Fourthly, turning in photographs that show different stages of the dogs, from puppy to adulthood . How a dog becomes an official breed when placed on the FSS list is as follows: there must be an active breed club, a record with FSS of at least 150 dogs with third-degree pedigrees, and a breed standard.

In order to gain breed recognition, an active breed club is essential. This not only demonstrates interest in the breed, but also generates more knowledge and in turn the breed gains more significance. Members of the club should not only seek out new members, but encourage them to register their dogs and be active participants and not just distant associates. It is also important to stay in contact with the FSS so that they recognize persistence and true intent. Once 300 dogs are registered on the FSS list and meet all other requirements, they are placed on the Miscellaneous Class List. This is the final step before a board review and potential breed recognition.

Dogs placed on the Foundation Stock Service®List still have a chance of becoming recognized. How a dog becomes an official breed once placed on the list is essentially up to the dedication of the individuals interested in breed recognition and people’s overall interest. Although this process will more than likely take a few years, it is understandable when considering the fact that the AKC has not only a reputation to uphold, but a rigorous standard as well.

Pomeranian Husky Mix for Sale

Many people are confused between the difference between a Pomsky and a Pomeranian Husky Mix.  Well, I’m here to tell you that it depends…  Pomeranian husky mix puppies can be very similar to Pomskies and in many instances they are the exact same thing.  However, it should be noted that not all are officially Pomskies

Fake Breeders

Many breeders are trying to make a quick buck by just trying to mate a Husky and a Pomeranian together.  Beware, of these people, because they are not helping our cause for making Pomskies an official breed.  In order for it to become an official breed it will take years of selectively breeding dogs of specific characteristics.  These so called Pomeranian Husky mixes are simply muts and nothing more.  That does not mean they would make great pets, its just not the same as a Pomsky.

What Pet Owners Should Do

Pet owners should do their due diligence before buying any type of pet, including a Pomsky!  Proper care should be taken in investigating every breeder you consider buying the dog from.  It is sad that we live in a world where people are trying to con and mislead other people.  No one cares about your money and pets more than you do.  Make sure you do everything in your power to research and review every breeder you come across.

Pomsky Fraud

Pomeranian Husky Mix for Sale

Make sure every breeder you go to is certified by their state or local government.  Pomsky fraud is rising and you should be aware of the fact that it does exist and is rising.  Yes I know, this is not a happy subject to be talking about, but I felt that the question should be posed.  We need to have this discussion so that we can fight against imposters trying to screw the system.  Nobody wants to be defrauded.  However, if you do find that you did not get a real Pomsky, try and take care of your animal no matter what it is!  Every animal is special even if it is just no more than a siberian husky pomeranian mix.

Remember to take precaution against any type of breeder.  Make sure they are respecting local and federal laws.  If you find anything suspicious, we recommend you report it to whatever local enforcement that deals with these issues.  Be especially careful if the breeder is saying that this is a mix between a Pomeranian and a Husky because it just may not be real.

What is a Pomsky?

Pomskies are essentially a mix between a Husky and a Pomeranian. The mating process between the Husky and the Pomeranian can be quite tricky as you can probably imagine. Because of this the development of the breed is very slow.

What does a Pomsky Dog Look Like?

At this time Pomskies can come in many different colors and sizes. Examples of what you can expect in the look of the dog include the following:

• They have small perky ears with a cute looking fox head.
• They have a furry exterior that usually is more full on the chest and neck
• They look very similar to Pomeranians, but usually have markings and colors of a Husky
• Eye color is normally blue like a Husky

Pomsky puppies are approaching the popularity status of both the Chihuahua and the Pomeranian as a favorite for lap dog owners. People are starting to prefer them because they are so cute.

Because Pomskies are fairly new, they can sometimes grow up to 25 pounds. However, they weigh on average anywhere from 10 to 20 pounds. The goal for breeders is to make them into a breed that is between 5 and 10 pounds. They should be at this weight range in the near future. At the moment the size of the dog depends largely on the genetic makeup it receives from its parents.

What are the Puppies Like?

Pomsky Puppies

Pomsky puppies are just like any other puppy, absolutely loveable! They are a great family dog and want to please their owners. They are very energetic and just love to play. They require a lot of exercise in order to get their energy out. Like most puppies they enjoy sleeping a lot and get bored very easily. They also like to eat a lot, because they grow fast.

A Pomsky is great to have as a member of the family, because they are great with children. They love kids and because they love to play with them. They are also great with older people because they learn to obey very fast. Pomsky puppies are great companions for anyone looking for a best friend.
